Conor Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Grandson, Fought in Ukraine

Conor Kennedythe grandson of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., was so moved by what he saw in Ukraine that he secretly pledged to fight for the country in its ongoing war against Russia.

Now that he’s safely home, Kennedy shared some takeaways from that harrowing experience with his Instagram followers. “I know this story is coming out, so first I want to say my bit to make the most of it and encourage others to take action,” he began. “Like many people, I was deeply moved by what I saw in Ukraine over the past year. i wanted to help When I heard about the International Legion of Ukraine I knew I was going and I went to the embassy to register the next day.”

The political scion went on to reveal that he kept a low profile during the fight abroad, explaining: “I told one person here where I am and one person over there I told my real name. I didn’t want my family or friends to worry and I didn’t want to be treated differently there. When I went in I had no prior military experience and wasn’t a good marksman, but I could carry heavy things and learned quickly. I was willing to die there too. So they soon agreed to send me to the Northeast Front.” He continued: “My time in Ukraine wasn’t long, but I saw a lot and felt a lot. I liked being a soldier, more than I expected. It is frightening. But life is simple, and the rewards for finding courage and doing good are considerable. My friends there know why I had to go home. I will always owe them their example. I know I’m lucky to have made it back, but I would also take any risks we took again.”

Kennedy, who briefly datedTaylor Swift in 2012 and recently made headlines for his outspoken opposition to the COVID-19 vaccine, adding: “This war, like all others, is appalling. The people I met were the bravest I have ever known. My fellow legionnaires – who came from different countries, backgrounds and ideologies – are true freedom fighters. As did the citizens I knew, many of whom lost everything in their long struggle against the oligarchy and for a democratic system. You know this is not a war of equals, this is a revolution.” Kennedy concluded by urging his supporters to follow his example and do whatever they can to support Ukraine now. “This war will shape the fate of democracy in this century,” he said. “There is more to be said about his policies and the role of Western governments there. For now I am only urging you to help in your personal capacity. Join the Legion, help at the border or send medical supplies. Every day someone there sacrifices everything for a lasting peace. You cannot be asked to act alone.” Conor Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Grandson, Fought in Ukraine
