A Conservative MP born in Ballymena has King Charles III. swore allegiance in Ulster Scots.
As MP for Bolton North East, Mr Logan shared a video of his swearing-in ceremony on Twitter.
He said: “Houldin the Irish Gaeilge Bible, speakin thon Ulster Scots, represents the great people of Bolton and admires our United Kingdom #uk #parliament #houseofcommons #languages some say #dialect #family.”
When a Twitter user asked if it was a dialect or a language, Mr Logan replied: “Let the debate begin.”
It is not known when MPs from Northern Ireland also spoke Ulster Scots when they were sworn in.
Among the cabinet ministers who pledged themselves to the King, Welsh Secretary Robert Buckland later took the oath twice – once in English and once in Welsh.
Ulster Scots, also known as Ulster Scotch and Ullans, is the dialect of Scots spoken in parts of Ulster in Northern Ireland.
It is generally regarded as a dialect or group of Scots dialects, although groups such as the Ulster-Scots Language Society and Ulster-Scots Academy consider it a language in its own right.
Mr Logan, a law graduate from Queen’s University Belfast, was elected MP for Bolton North East in 2019.
He later said his “single priority” shortly after taking office was to steer Bolton North East through Covid-19.
The Antrim man says he is “fully committed” to getting more police on the streets of Bolton, as well as more funding for the NHS and a significant cash boost to schools across the constituency.
He believes the economy must grow to underpin all of these crucial investments, by inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs and attracting more foreign investment to Bolton.
Mr Logan said he was not a career politician having worked in business before and after serving in the UK at the Foreign Office.
He was an executive in a multinational company and most recently a senior director in a management consultancy.
He believes too many people in Parliament have worked in the “political and London bubble” for too long and are therefore disconnected from the reality of modern Britain.
