A convicted pimp accused of defying a ban on accessing sex websites has dropped an offer to be released while trying to have his license revoked.
Artin Heaney, 59, was due to apply to the High Court for bail on Wednesday on a new charge of breaching a Slavery and Trafficking Prevention Order (STPO).
However, the case has been adjourned indefinitely because the authorities have taken steps to have him recalled to another prison term for his original offences.
Defense attorney Peter Coiley confirmed: “Events have overtaken us. We are unable to submit the application.”
Heaney, originally from Maypole Park in Dromore, Co Down, was sentenced last month to five years in prison for a catalog of offenses against vulnerable young women whom he exploited and forced into controlled prostitution.
Due to the fact that he had already been held on remand, he was released on probation, but placed under an STPO for seven years.
The order includes a ban on accessing websites that advertise personal sexual services.
Heaney was arrested again at his hostel in south Belfast on July 26 for allegedly breaching this ban.
An earlier court heard PSNI scans of his cellphone found it had been accessed on websites advertising strippers, kissograms and “escort services.”
Police claimed he totally disobeyed the STPO by visiting websites similar to those used in the past to contact some victims.
At that hearing, Heaney’s attorney insisted that there was an innocent explanation for all content on his phone, and it was not believed that views via YouTube violated the order.
However, it was also announced that the probation service contacted parole officers last week to revoke Heaney’s license because of the risk he suspected.
It is understood that this trial led to his request for bail being suspended.
The former taxi driver had previously admitted a total of 28 charges from June 2011 to September 2019.
These offenses included 10 charges of controlling prostitution in anticipation of gain, 10 charges of human trafficking and seven charges of voyeurism.
The victims were lured into prostitution and forced into unprotected sex with Heaney and other men.
Women were driven to customers on both sides of the border – in some incidents involving multiple customers on the same night.
Many of them were included in paid sexual activities without their consent, and one was ordered to continue working as a prostitute while she was pregnant.
