ROCHESTER, NY – After making a strong start to the PGA Championship this week, Corey Conners is sure to gain some new fans. The Canadian has three top-10 finishes at major championships, all at the Masters, and is looking to add a big winner to his biography here on Sunday at Oak Hill. Whether he’s causing a stir at the Greg Norman Manor or LIV Golf chat rooms (if there are such things), the Canadian has put on record with Postmedia that he has no interest in jumping onto the competing tour.

At last year’s Open Championship in St Andrews, I asked the energetic Canadian if he would consider the Saudi-backed tour.

“No, not really. Life on the PGA Tour is so good, I’m really happy,” said Conners. “I want to play events like the RBC Canadian Open. The feeling of playing there is absolutely incredible and you give up “It’s definitely a lot when you go there, so I never really thought about it. I’m fascinated by what’s happening and I can’t blame some guys for going, but it’s just not for me.”

Conners said at the time that he still had a lot more to achieve on the PGA Tour. He’s made some progress since we spoke about it, winning the Valero Texas Open for the second time last month. And now he’s back with a major again.
“I want to climb the world rankings. I got in the top 50, got in the top 30, and I want to be a top 10 player in the world, and I envision that I’ll do that on the PGA Tour,” he said. “I still have a lot to do and I am willing to work for it. A lot of good things can happen in these major championships and on the PGA Tour.”
Of course, anyone can change their mind, but this is where Canada’s top-ranked golfer stood on the subject less than a year ago.
