Cyclists Stunned When They Come Face To Face With Big Ol’ Grizzly Bear At Glacier National Park

I’m not sure what the recommended “safe distance” for grizzly bears is, but I’m pretty sure it’s not “across the street”.

Unfortunately, these cyclists had no choice.

Northern Montana’s Glacier National Park is just the epitome of pristine wilderness, so well preserved that many wildlife species thrive.

In the end there are countless cool videos, close encounters and of course the occasional stupid tourist.

These cyclists certainly weren’t stupid, as they were clearly on a bear-aware course and had practiced good bear-proof tactics. However, that is all you can do in such a situation.

The cyclists pedal along the well-known Going To The Sun Road and stop to take what appears to be a break, or perhaps they’ve spotted the bear coming in the distance. Either way, the whole group starts yelling at a bear.

“NO BEAR”

A general phrase in a loud voice usually suffices for these curious types. Especially if there is a large group of people.

But there’s a big old Grizz coming out outside.

These predators always send chills down my spine. Even a small one is big and a large one is massive…they are absolute beasts.

The big bear walks by as if to say, “Not today, folks,” and continues down the road.

“GO AWAY BEAR”

The man keeps screaming, even when they are clear and certain, just a crazy close encounter with the top of the food chain. Granted, not all bears are hyper-aggressive and meeting one doesn’t immediately mean you’re a dead man.

These sorts of harmless interactions are pretty common…but other than that, I’m not trying to get that close to a Grizz.

Remember to stay alert out there, especially in national parks like Glacier.
