The minimum wage in California has gone from $10.00 to $10.50 an hour! That’s good news for minimum-wage earners, but bad news for guests who now get an extra surcharge on their bill! Julian Gallardo and his family were enjoying pizza at Liberty Station Sammy’s Woodfired Pizza in sunny San Diego when he saw an additional $3.00 had been added to his bill.
Gallardo’s biggest complaint was that he wasn’t told the surcharge – it just showed up on his bill. The California Department of Industrial Relations says the state minimum wage will increase every January through 2023, by which time the minimum wage will be $15 an hour. Any full-time employee who does not pay the minimum wage can file a complaint against their employer.
