Dan Walker Accuses Piers Morgan Of ‘Overstepping The Mark’ In Their Ongoing TV Feud

Dan Walker has opened up about an incident where he felt Piers Morgan had crossed a line in their on-the-day rivalry.

During their respective tenures as presenters of BBC Breakfast and Good Morning Britain, Dan and Piers were involved in a mostly playful public feud, centered mostly around the latter’s hopes of the ITV show overtaking its rival in ratings and their different presentation styles would.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star – who has now jumped to Channel 5 – recently sat down with The Times, where he was asked if his new role would allow him to express himself more freely than he does on the BBC.

“I’m sure I’ll have more freedom to express my opinions if I want to, but I’m fighting personality TV,” he told the newspaper.

“You can only be as authentic as you are, but I don’t want to portray a personality like Piers. And I never went down to his level of insults.

Dan went on to say he felt Piers “overshot the mark” when he “smashed a mug with my face on it”.

According to The Independent, Dan was referring to an on-air incident in 2017 in which Piers smashed a mug with the BBC breakfast logo emblazoned on it with a hammer instead of his rival’s face.

“I don’t have to do this,” he insisted.

Dan added: “When I first started working on BBC Breakfast, I met [Piers] at an event and he said, “You’re going to be terrible. We will destroy you.’ But my attitude was to remain calmly confident.

“And I met him again after he left GMB and I said to him: ‘In all the years you’ve been with GMB you’ve mentioned me almost every day and we haven’t mentioned your name once, until the day you left…

“I think there’s room for both types of broadcasting, but Piers? This is not a persona for me to inhabit because I would feel very wrong.

Earlier this month, Dan poked fun at Piers’ infamous walk-off while visiting the Good Morning Britain studio himself. Dan Walker Accuses Piers Morgan Of ‘Overstepping The Mark’ In Their Ongoing TV Feud
