Daniel Cormier Shares Biggest Regret of Hall of Fame UFC Career

Lafayette’s own Daniel Cormier had an incredible MMA career that earned him a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame.

His 22-4 MMA record and multiple championships, including both the UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight championships, earned him a spot in the UFC Hall of Fame.

Now at 43, Cormier serves as a commentator for UFC and has always been a natural on the mic.

While some Hall of Famers can look back on their illustrious careers with no regrets, Cormier doesn’t fall into that category.

Appears on The MMA lesson Cormier shared with Ariel Helwani his regret at having struggled against Stipe Miocic in his last two games.

Cormier lost the 2019 UFC Heavyweight Championship to Miocic via TKO and fell to him again via decision in 2020.

“Fighting Stipe Miocic after my back surgery, those two times, it wasn’t the same fight. I couldn’t wrestle! I should have quit at 18. I should have quit at 18. I should have retired after Derrick Lewis. Especially when I had back surgery. I was so limited it was crazy.”

Cormier went on to say Miocic didn’t hit him when he was younger.

Although Cormier no longer lives in Lafayette, he drops by often.

Born in Lafayette in 1979, he won 3 Louisiana high school state championships in wrestling on the Northside.
