David Moyes doesn’t want ugly Alkmaar scenes to spoil West Ham’s famous win

Pablo Fornals scored the only goal of the second leg to propel the Hammers into a first European final in 47 years.
The Spaniard’s goal sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory over the Dutch side and sparked wild celebrations from the West Ham players on the pitch at the AFAS Stadion.
Still, the east London club’s historic result was marred by horrific post-match scenes.
A group of Alkmaar fans appeared to attack some of the traveling support in an area where the families and friends of West Ham players and staff were seated.
Several members of Moyes’ squad helped protect loved ones who broke through a barrier to run across the field.
“I can’t explain what happened or why it happened,” Moyes said.
“All I can tell you is that the players were involved because it was the family area where most of their family and friends sat. I think that’s why I met friends and family in this area.
“That was probably the reason for the reaction. What I definitely don’t want is for that to be undone tonight because it wasn’t the West Ham fans looking for trouble. At the end of the game they were happy about the cheering. Hopefully they will investigate and find the reasons for this.
“My family was there and I had friends in that section.
“I think you hope they would try to get away. I had some friends in the area.
“I didn’t realize it because I loved going out onto the pitch and seeing the other people and the referee before I left. Security wanted to bring me in, but I had to make sure the players didn’t get sucked in.”
