Deiveson Figueiredo wasn’t too impressed with Brandon Moreno’s performance against Kai Kara-France in Saturday’s UFC 277 pay-per-view.
Moreno claimed the interim flyweight title after finishing out Kara-France in the third round of their co-main event bout. As crucial as the win was, Figueiredo didn’t think his rival had improved from the last bout.
“Deus Da Guerra” appeared in the latest episode of The MMA lesson and chimed in with his thoughts on the preliminary title fight. Figueiredo said through a translator:
“Brandon looked the same as ever. He never changed his game. It’s always the same and I have the antidote for him.”
As for Kara-France, the Brazilian champions believe he could have won the fight had he enforced his will with greater authority. However, Figueiredo conceded that the Kiwi fighter was doing his best.
“I find [Kara-France] did everything to win, but I’d like to see him with more blood in his eyes and get his way a little bit more. I thought he could have won if he had done that.”

Deiveson Figueiredo admits he was surprised by Brandon Moreno
Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno had a classic confrontation in the octagon after the championship fight. Unlike previous iterations of in-cage face-offs, the two defending champions kept their interaction surprisingly cordial.
Watch the duel in the clip below:
Figueiredo admitted he too was surprised at how it all went. The Brazilian revealed he came into the cage prepared for a heated confrontation, but Moreno’s likable character rubbed off:
“As I entered the cage, I entered the cage with anger. I’m always looking for a knockout, but you know Brandon was so cute during the interview it was contagious. And it sort of rubbed off on me, so it’s nice I’ve calmed down the beast in me, but now I’m back. The rage is back and I come in for the knockout in the fourth fight.
Despite this, Figueiredo pointed out that he still goes into the fourth fight full of “rage” and vows to take out Moreno.
Moreno’s latest victory establishes the UFC’s first-ever tetralogy between two fighters. As things stand, the rivals are 1-1-1 after three consecutive encounters.
