Demario Davis Nominated for Prestigious NFL Award

Demario Davis left an enduring impression on the city of New Orleans.

Coming off the Jets, the linebacker immediately became a top-flight player and leader on and off the field.

His value in the dressing room is invaluable, as is his work off the field.

So, who the Saints nominated for the NFL’s most prestigious off-the-field award for the second straight year was a no-brainer.

The “Man of God” gets a second chance to finish as Man of the Year.

The award, which bears the name of the indelible Walter Payton, is given to a player nominated by his team who makes a big impression on and off the field.

The Arkansas State alum’s charity, the Devoted Dreamers Foundation, has a mission to “equip the next generation of leaders with the tools to thrive spiritually, mentally, and physically.”

Davis recently secured a large donation on behalf of former NFL players Anquan Boldin and Malcolm Jenkins for his Devoted Dreamers Academy, a series of after-school programs and camps that offer insights into the world of sports business and a path for youth to transform Build social connections and skills in a safe and productive way.

Finally, the Academy has a 7-on-7 traveling football team that has a 100% college acceptance rate among its athletes.

The last Saint to win the Walter Payton Man of the Year award was Drew Brees in 2006. While there are obviously many deserving nominees, a second straight nomination certainly increases Davis’ chances of winning the award.

Davis’ influence in the community is as deep and broad as Lake Pontchartrain, and while he certainly deserves the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, Who Dat Nation is proud of him either way.
