“Dictator has started his tactics”, “Has some weird agenda” – Fans slam Louis van Gaal’s decision to bench 23-year-old star ahead of Poland vs Netherlands

Fans have criticized Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal for his decision to bench Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia against Poland today (22 September).

Van Gaal opted for a back three with Nathan Ake, Virgil van Djik and Jurrien Timber for the UEFA Nations League encounter. Daley Blind and Denzel Dumfries start the game at full-back while Malacia is on the bench.

The 23-year-old has been in fine form for Manchester United this season since joining from Feyenoord for £12.9million and making eight appearances.

Fans were frustrated with the Dutch coach’s decision to start blind ahead of Malacia.

Manchester United fans tweeted that the 23-year-old deserved to be given a few minutes.

Some Dutch fans are also worried their side are at a disadvantage due to the former United manager’s decision to bench the starlet.

Check out the best reactions on Twitter to Van Gaal’s decision to bench Malacia:

@TheEuropeanLad No, Malacia, that’s why Van Gaal has a strange agenda against us. It’s not our fault that we sacked him when he only played 0-0 draws for our club

@TheEuropeanLad Dictator has started his tactics, at least Malacia doesn’t get hurt

@TheEuropeanLad I’m so done with this man what does Malacia have to do to get a few minutes!!!!

Malacia has played five games for Oranje in his young career. A former United full-back, Blind has made 92 appearances for the Netherlands national team in his long career.

The Dutch defense will have the difficult task of handling Poland goalscorer Robert Lewandowski when the two teams meet in the UEFA Nations League.

Speaking to the press before the game, Louis van Gaal referred to the Barcelona no. 9 as the best player in his position.

“I think Lewandowski is the best striker in the world.” (h/t barcauniversal)

Frenkie de Jong, Lewandowski’s Barcelona team-mate, doubled down on his coach’s claims as he showered praise on the Poland striker.

“Robert Lewandowski is a really nice person. He’s one of the best players in the world and an all-around striker. He’s strong, he can hold the ball, his technical ability is really good, he makes a lot of runs and he scores a lot of goals.”

Despite the mutual respect, the Dutch team must focus on the task of dealing with the Lewandowski threat.

Lewandowski has scored 11 goals and provided two assists in eight games in all competitions so far.
