Discount store One Beyond opens at The Galleries in Washington

Signs have emerged for the brand’s new location at The Galleries in Washington, confirming it will open at 10 a.m. this Wednesday (May 17).

The new store, based in the former Poundstretcher store, is expected to create 30 new jobs for the city after a six-figure investment.

Customers can expect a huge range of products from the areas of cleaning, cosmetics and toys at reasonable prices.

Christopher Edwards, Founder and CEO of One Beyond said, “We are excited to open our new value store One Beyond in Washington.

“While we have over 4000 £1 products, we also carry additional ranges priced above £1. Our goal is to offer our buyers exceptional value for money with a wide selection of handpicked bargains.

One Beyond was launched in 2019 by former Poundworld bosses Chris Edwards and Chris Edwards Jnr and employs 1,038 people across the UK.

There are now more than 80 stores including in Redcar, Newton Aycliffe, South Shields, Sunderland and Silverlink and there are plans to open more in the coming months.

In September last year, the chain announced a rebrand, changing its name from One Below to One Beyond. The company switched from promising prices of under £1 to offering “amazing value from just £1”.

At the time, owners Chris Edwards Jr. and Snr told the trade publication The grocer The current climate meant keeping prices below £1 was ‘impossible’ and that renaming had always been the intention.

Edwards Snr said: “To keep anything for £1 or less we would have to take too many items from the store,” he said. “We made it work, but we always said those days would end and with everything that’s happening in the world now, it’s just impossible.”
