Dolly Parton Is The Queen Of Talk Shows, & Her Appearance On Johnny Carson Proves It

A woman of many talents and the ultimate country and talk show star. Dolly Parton can do no wrong.

She is charming, charismatic and funny. She knows how to get an audience going and it’s always a bonus when you can highlight your talent on prime-time TV.

In 1979 Parton performed The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

He introduces the young star by saying, “They really love you. You have loyal fans.” Parton goes on to joke that she thinks his fans are showing their true love. She mentions that she feels like she and Carson are good friends too.

They had first met five minutes before she took the stage, and she was in the back putting on her outfit, so he got, “Sorry, I can’t talk right now!”

Who wouldn’t agree with Parton? That’s a nice start to a friendship (and the crowd goes wild after that sarcastic remark)

They talk music, share jokes and stories, and their goals to become “thin and beautiful”.

Towards the end of the interview, she told Carson that she wrote a song for him to commemorate the many successes the show had brought her. She pulls out a guitar and plucks it with her long acrylic nails.

The little tune tells her story as a girl from a small town in Tennessee and how she made it big on Johnny Carson’s show. She makes fun of herself all the time which is awesome for Parton and whatnot.

Superfans probably would have gotten the song on the charts somehow if she had recorded it.

Dolly later performs “Star of the Show” and “Sweet Summer Lovin'” in the program.

The crowd goes wild after she finishes her performance.

Fans couldn’t get enough of Parton back then, and that’s still true today.

Everyone loves Mrs. Dolly Parton.

She’s gone on to appear The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Conan O’Brien, James Corden and more.
