“Don’t know what the f**k is going on”

Wrestling legend Jim Cornette has expressed concern over the direction of AEW star MJF following the latest episode of Dynamite.

During the show, Maxwell Jacob Friedman edited a backstage promo in which he spoke very patronizingly to Stokely Hathaway before telling the audience that being the villain isn’t easy.

While his take on Hathaway was what we’ve come to expect from The Salt of the Earth, the rest of the promo showed signs that Max might be turning face in the near future.

That MJF promo was still firmly in heel, but the last bit where he talked about how he hates himself but has to be the villain to be successful felt about as close as how he came about trying to find a way to be some kind of heroic figure while still being himself.

In the final episode of his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, Cornette expressed concern that MJF’s facial twisting would ruin his character.

“That’s what I’m worried about. Firing the guy, “You don’t know what it’s like to be me,” there’s more to this story, it sounds like they’re dropping seeds to make him a babyface, pretty much the whole G*dd**n will destroy aurora of the thing.” [2:17-2:30]

Cornette also explained that he felt like he didn’t really know what was going on in a segment with MJF, something that doesn’t happen regularly.

“For the first time I see an MJF segment and I’m like, ‘I don’t know what the hell is going on. What’s going on here? This gets deep and I’m not talking about the psychology so much as I am talking about the bulls**t factor. Are they trying to make him a likable character? “You don’t know how hard it is to be the bad guy!” Or did he think to say that — he did it alone and it didn’t necessarily land.” [0:06-1:18]

What will MJF have to say about AEW Dynamite this week?

If there’s one thing Maxwell Jacob Friedman has right now it’s getting everyone’s attention, and this week MJF will be speaking live again on AEW Dynamite with no one having a clue what he’s going to say next.

MJF still has his poker chip he won on the All Out pay-per-view, which guarantees him an AEW World Championship match at any time, so the “salt of the earth” could very well meddle in the title match between Jon Moxley and Hangman Page .

Friedman also showed signs of frustration with The Firm getting in his way lately, with MJF Stokely Hathaway even saying they will be fired if he or his group make another mistake as Max’s stall holder.
