The transition to fall is feeling slower than usual this year as temperatures linger in the 80s for most of October. But a cold front bringing below-average temperatures to southern Louisiana has many people wishing it would stay.
In fact, the low temperatures appear to be a first for the region in a long, long time.
But after the current cold front flies away today, temperatures are expected to return to the low 80s and feel more like a Louisiana spring or early summer than fall. Fortunately, these temperatures do not appear to be permanent.
The next drop in temperature
Acadiana can expect today’s highs to only rise into the mid 70’s, but the week will end with temperatures climbing back into the 80’s and staying there through the middle of next week.
However, according to KATC’s Daniel Phillips, another cold front could arrive midweek next week, although we won’t see the freezing temperatures we’ve seen over the past two days.
A calm forecast remains in place until early next week, when our next front is expected to bring a bout of much-needed rain to the region.
There are some questions as to the timing and length of the frontal passage, but it seems like being prepared for rain on Tuesday is a good bet.
Some models are continuing to shower on Wednesday, but there’s little consensus as it’s so far in the future.
It will cool down behind the next front, but not to the extent that we’ve had this week.
That’s good news if you’re a fan of the mid to upper 70’s and a good breeze.
While the end of next week may revisit those highs, it appears extremely short-lived as another front seems poised.
So don’t put the gumbo pots away just yet. You will have more than enough opportunities to use them very soon.
