Drew Barrymore showed that she has no problem with being celibate for years. In fact, she worries that going long periods without sex has become a little too easy for her.
The host opened up about her sex life during the “Drew’s News” segment of her daytime talk show on Tuesday. The topic naturally came up when she and the segment’s co-host Ross Matthews discussed Andrew Garfield‘s recent revelation that he has been celibate for six months in preparation for his role in the 2016 film Be silent in which he plays a Jesuit priest. In a new episode of WTF with Marc Maron, the actor said of the role, “I had an incredibly spiritual experience. I did a few spiritual exercises every day, I created new rituals for myself. I was celibate for six months and fasted a lot because I and Adam [Driver] had to lose some weight anyway.”
In response to that story, Matthews joked, “Well, I abstain from sex — I did that my entire 20’s.” Barrymore agreed, adding, “I was like, ‘What’s wrong with me, that six months isn’t very long appear?’ I thought: ‘Yes, So?‘” But her co-host caught her in her tracks, interjecting, “I mean, we buried the Lede there. That’s the headline: ‘Drew may go six months, no big deal'” to which Barrymore replied, “Oh, Years.”
This is hardly the first time the actress has shared some very personal anecdotes about her romantic life on television. In March, during the same news segment on the show, Matthews asked her if she “ever had a dream about an ex that made you go, ‘Oooh?’ Barrymore confessed, “I think that’s the only place I get active these days, Ross!” She added, “Every six months I have the hottest dream and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m libidinal and alive.'” Matthews interrupted to ask her for a definition of the word libidinal, and the talk show host explained, “Libidinal – like I have a libido. Like I’m alive and have a pulse.” Her co-host replied with a laugh, “I just love that in your dreams, one of your exes was all over your libido.” Barrymore laughed, too, concluding, “Dreams, they are a safe space to sort out many things.”
