Eagle: 1, bird trying to mess with an eagle: 0.
A bird (looks like a heron, but I’m no bird expert) was almost killed after trying to mess with an eagle at Featherdale Wildlife Park in Sydney, Australia.
From an outsider’s point of view, it was quite a chicken train considering the eagle was caged in an enclosure at a zoo and the bird probably thought it was the perfect time to taunt the eagle while trying to taunt it at the same time to take away his food.
However, the bird’s plan backfired fairly quickly as the eagle brilliantly picked up the food and moved it further away, requiring the bird to pok its head further into the cage. As it did so, the eagle immediately grabbed the bird’s head in its claw and held it for a few seconds before finally releasing it.
In fact, the bird didn’t want the eagle anymore and quickly escaped…
Bold strategy, cotton.
Needless to say, this old heron will surely think twice before attacking an eagle’s food again.
Coyote chases bald eagles to gain a carcass in Yellowstone
survival of the fittest.
Yellowstone National Park is one of the snowiest places in all of America, as it gets about 150 inches of snow on average and can reach as high as 200 to 400 inches depending on the elevation Lodges in Yellowstone National Park.
That being said, food can be scarce for the wildlife that stays in the park during the snowy months, and as we’ve already seen, many creatures must fight for their food to survive.
In this video you can see a couple of bald eagles steal the remains of a carcass in Yellowstone. Although the bald eagle usually feeds on fish, they have to make do with what they can get during the winter as the ponds are frozen over.
It seems for a while that the bald eagles have the carcass all to themselves when out of nowhere a coyote lurks in the distance.
Once the coyote realizes the shoreline is free of wolves, he heads towards the bald eagles to get the carcass for himself.
He runs in and pounces on the remaining bald eagle, and although the eagle struggles to hold its own with its talons, the coyote wins in the end and the eagle is left to watch from afar.
“One of the snowiest places in America, Yellowstone quickly transforms into a wonderland as winter progresses. But for Yellowstone wildlife, having a bald eagle and a coyote fighting over a carcass is a delicately balanced struggle for survival.”
