The woman’s location meant the safest way to transport her for medical care would be by helicopter. The Coastguard helicopter was called from Prestwick in Scotland.
The woman was successfully pulled onto the helicopter on a stretcher and flown to James Cook Hospital.
A mountain rescue spokesman said: “Shortly before 5pm on Wednesday September 6th we received a call from Durham Police to report that an elderly lady had fallen at Cauldron Snout waterfall in Teesdale.”
