Elliot Page Says Life Has ‘Drastically’ Improved Since Coming Out As Trans

Life for Elliot Page has only gotten better since he came out as transgender.

The Umbrella Academy star opened up about a “level of joy” he never thought possible during an interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, and shared that he’s learned to ignore people’s negative reactions.

“It has drastically improved my life,” Elliot said of the transition. “I hope, you know, I hope maybe people who have a problem with me can try to hear that or embrace that on some level.”

“What I want to focus on now and what has been so extraordinary is the level of joy I feel, the level of presence I feel,” he added. “I’m feeling in a way that I didn’t think was possible for a really, really long, long time.”

While Elliot’s loved ones are supportive, the actor has previously spoken out about the “hate and cruelty” he’s experienced since publicly announcing in late 2020 that he’s a transgender man, including being verbally abused by a stranger the street.

The Oscar nominee said that certain “moments can be overwhelming,” but he chooses to focus on the positive despite the barrage of anti-trans laws being rolled out across the US.

“I feel like it’s one of those things where it’s so unfortunate because it’s like we’re all on the same team here, you know?” he told the host, adding that everyone is independent of his gender identity is “limited and constrained because people are obsessed with the binary world.”

Elliot added, “For me, it would be very special if we could all connect and talk about how alike we are across all of our travels.”

Ultimately, Elliot said the transition “made me better” both as a person and as an actor.
