Emmerdale OPINION: We need some happiness

Emmerdale is slowly destroying us all with all the misery.

How much crushed trauma can a village contain? At this rate, Pompei is looking positive.

Watching an episode of the Yorkshire set soap opera is now akin to going to a therapy session encouraging you to be totally depressed.

Misery loves company – we would never have guessed that from the status of the pity party in the Dales.

We have Leyla’s drug addiction and subsequent falling out with the apparently horrible drug dealer going on.

Meanwhile, she lashes out at everyone close to her, and luckily her husband – the highly educated doctor – has no clue what exactly is going on under his – and her – noses.

He now knows after she overdosed and threatened to end their marriage. So more misery!

Speaking of which – Chas Dingle’s most obvious affair is with Al Chapman.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so shabby.

Emmerdale needs to be looser and faster

There are only so many walks someone can take in heels and a tight red dress before even Paddy would trust something was wrong.

It would be one thing if the two somehow harmonized – but they really don’t, and they’re two of the most awkward characters to ever soil the village.

When put together, the expression of cruel twosomes seems totally inadequate.

Add a teenage pregnancy to all of that.

Because who doesn’t love a murder mystery about possible legal rape?

Give us strength!

It’s just all very depressed, miserable and awful. The real world might not be much better, but at least there is hope in the real world.

In Emmerdale you would google Dignitas after catching a cold in that village.

Ironically, the only escape from the abject misery that descends upon the Dales with each passing episode is the terminally ill Faith Dingle.

She’s in a great mood.

But then it would be you, right? Knowing that your time in Miserydale is about to end.

Give us a little luck – anything please!

Emmerdale normally airs weekdays at 19:30 on ITV, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
