Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden is so nervous about leaving the soap

The 43-year-old appeared on This Morning to officially announce the sad news while watching a clip showing some of his best moments since 2006.

As he took off his glasses to wipe away some tears during the nostalgic portion, Holly Willoughby asked Matthew what he thought of his exit.

He replied: “I’m so nervous about saying goodbye, but for almost two decades it seems like the right time.

“The door stays open, they won’t kill me, that’s what I was promised. I can tell you that.

“Who knows, maybe I’ll come back. Yes, but we’ll see.

The series, set in Yorkshire, means a lot to the actor as he met his wife and colleague there Emmerdale Favorite Charley Webb, who played the character of Debbie Dingle.

Charley left one of the Dale’s most famous families after 19 years in 2021.

The couple has three sons together.

Matthew adding: “Not only did it give me 18 years, it gave me a family. So saying goodbye was a huge, huge part of my life and just the most amazing 18 years.”

Speaking about his latest storyline, he revealed: “There is some sort of resolution… I can’t reveal too much. Victoria is the reason he’s leaving the village… let’s put it that way!”

“In a way he’s leaving because of Victoria, I can’t give too much away!”

The father of three also shared an exciting update on his next career move ITV1 He has been giving audience members singing lessons as he will appear as Buddy in Elf The Musical at the Dominion Theater over the Christmas period later this year.

A TV source previously said The sun: “Matthew had a great time on the soap but feels ready for a change.

“He hasn’t gotten any dark storylines lately, so he wants to see what else is out there.”

The source continued: “He’s a fan favorite so he’ll have a lot of support in whatever he decides to do next.”

“He’s very excited about the opportunities ahead.”
