Eric Church Puts His Own Spin On Toby Keith’s “I Love This Bar” With Acoustic Cover At BMI Awards

You put an acoustic guitar in your hands Eric Churchand you never know what you’re going to get.

You just know it’s gonna be damn good.

Last night Chief was at the BMI Country Awards, which honor the songwriters and publishers behind the 50 most played country songs of the year, to celebrate Toby Keith and the 30th anniversary of recording his 1993 hit “Should’ve Been A Cowboy,” when he received the BMI Icon Award for that honor.

And Eric did a really unique stripped down cover of Toby’s hit “I Love This Bar” which Carrie Underwood also did with a great rendition “Should have been a cowboy.”

Toby was present at the show yesterday to accept the award in person as well, marking one of his awards first public appearances since battling stomach cancer for the last six months which is great to see.

“I Love This Bar” was co-written by Toby with Scotty Emerick and released as the lead single to his 2003 Shock’n Y’all album and peaked at number one on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

There’s no doubt that, as usual, Eric put his own unique spin on the song and I totally endorse it:

“I love this bar”
