Explained in His Shadow Ending

Unfortunately, the story leaves a lot to the imagination as it feels like a generic brotherhood story. Given the path the brothers take, the journey to their destined confrontation makes no sense given how opposite they are. They could have lived their separate lives without getting in each other’s way.

The pace of In his shadow is a significant problem because these characters don’t have enough depth. The story barely touches on family dynamics, and the film could have benefited from a longer running time. It felt underdeveloped because we didn’t understand the full extent of the fraternal connection or separation between them.

There are some great moments in this film because it shows Adamma’s blindness. Director Marc Fouchard does a really great job of uniquely framing Adamma moving through life with his sense of hearing heightened due to his blindness. The Black Magic scenes felt disjointed because they were placed at odd points in the film.

The connection between the Black Magic and the outcome for the brothers was fragile and didn’t add the extra kick Fouchard was expecting.

What happens between Adamma and Ibrahim?

In the mix of everything that happens between the two brothers, her sister Aissata (Assa Sylla) and boyfriend Malik (Carl Malapa) find themselves caught in the crosshairs of the drama. To protect his sister and friend from what Ibrahim has planned, Adamma must intervene.

One of Ibrahim’s trap houses has his worker named Eddy keeping Malik in the basement. Eddy abused Malik and sent things to Adamma to blackmail him. Aissata asks Ibrahim to help her get Malik out of there and instead locks her in a room.

Adamma cuts off the power to Eddy’s house and eventually saves Malik himself. In the process, he’s fed up with Ibrahim and tries to destroy his entire complex. When Adamma breaks into Ibrahim’s apartment, he notices and starts beating him.

The brothers now face off in a brutal battle. Ibrahim tries to strangle Adamma but he manages to break free and then Adama tries to shoot Ibrahim. Ibrahim was injured and eventually died when Aissata broke out of her room.

Is Adamma alive?

Adamma makes it out of the building unharmed and perfectly fine, having used his blindness as a strength to get out of there alive. There is a good message for Adamma in this film, but it wasn’t strong enough to make this ending effective to convey the meaning. The connection to his father is there, but at the cost of losing his brother.
