FDA Warns of TikTok Challenge Prompting Teens to Cook Chicken in NyQuil

FDA warns parents of deadly new TikTok challenge where kids cook chicken in NyQuil ‘presumably to eat’ It’s the latest example of a dangerous stunt being passed on to young Americans by China’s TikTok.

“A recent social media video challenge encourages people to cook chicken in NyQuil (acetaminophen, dextromethorphan, and doxylamine) or another similar over-the-counter cough and cold remedy, presumably to eat,” the FDA said in a press release.

“Social media trends and peer pressure can be a dangerous combination for your children and their friends, especially when it comes to drug abuse,” the FDA added. “These video challenges, often aimed at teens, can harm people — and even cause death.”

Health officials went on to say that “cooking a drug can make it much more concentrated and change its properties in other ways.”

Not only can consuming chicken marinated in NyQuil be deadly, but even inhaling the fumes can allow a large amount of the drug to enter your body and injure your lungs, health officials say.

“Even if you don’t eat the chicken, inhaling the drug fumes from cooking could result in high levels of the drug entering your body. It could also injure your lungs,” the FDA warned. “Put simply, someone could be taking a dangerously high amount of the cough and cold medicine without realizing it.”

This latest TikTok trend comes after another challenge seen on the Chinese social media platform, which asked people to take large doses of the allergy drug diphenhydramine (Benadryl) to induce hallucinations, the FDA noted.

In 2020, the FDA issued another warning about the dangers of taking high doses of diphenhydramine, following reports of teenagers being hospitalized and, in some cases, dying after participating in this challenge.

In 2021, school officials spoke out against TikTok’s “Bathroom Challenge,” which encouraged students to vandalize school bathrooms.

As Breitbart News reported at the time:

The “bathroom challenge” trend, also known as “devious licks,” reportedly includes videos showing vandalism of trophy cabinets, hallways, and classrooms, as well as theft of fire extinguishers, school signs, and other property.

At a Connecticut school, a smart board was unscrewed from a wall, Rabinowitz said.

The head of state added that teachers and administrative officials are already dealing with extra precautions put in place in response to the Chinese coronavirus and don’t need an extra headache of monitoring bathrooms and responding to vandalism.
