Figures from the Treasury Department reveal how much the Queen’s funeral cost

The state funeral, held in Balmoral in September last year after the Queen’s death, cost over £150million.

The largest costs were reported by the Home Office, which spent around £73.7million, closely followed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport at £57.4million.

It was also revealed that the Scottish Government’s cost to the Scottish Government was around £18.8million, which includes events such as her funeral in Edinburgh.

The figures were published by the Ministry of Finance in a written statement to the UK Parliament, covering the period from her death on September 8 to her funeral in London on September 19.

Money paid by the Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland governments for the Queen’s funeral has been “fully refunded”, according to the Treasury.

A spokesman for Number 10 commented costs of Queen’s funeral: “Of course, with a major international event of this magnitude, we wanted to make sure that we could give people the opportunity to pay their respects.”

Other departments such as the Ministry of Defense also shared in the costs of the event, with the Ministry of Defense paying £2.9m, the Department for Transport paying £2.6m and the Welsh Government paying £2.2m.

The Northern Ireland and Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Offices also paid a total of £2.1m.

The Treasury said the costs include “full reimbursements” to the Scottish and Welsh Governments and the Northern Ireland Office, “which in turn they were able to repay to partners who also incurred costs”.
