Fiona Wade is married to former co-star Simon Cotton

Emmerdale actress Fiona Wade, who plays Priya Kotecha on the ITV soap, must be pretty fed up when it comes to her alter ego and her men!

Priya struggles to maintain a relationship and the scars she bears as a result of the burns she sustained last year have shaken her confidence even more.

Thankfully, in real life, actress Fiona is a lot more settled — and totally in love — with her husband, Simon Cotton.

Simon, himself a former Emmerdale star, and Fiona wed in 2019 but how did they meet? And when was Simon in the Dales?

Emmerdale: Who is Fiona Wade married to?

Fiona married fellow actor Simon Cotton in October 2019.

He had proposed on New Year’s Eve, with Fiona admitting she was in “flows of tears” when he popped the question at their family home in Hertfordshire.

In a joint interview with OK! Magazine added Fiona: “It took me longer than Simon. I don’t get into relationships easily, but I really wanted to be sure.

“Everything is so simple with Simon. He also gets along great with my mum, which is really important.”

She said: “The proposal was perfect. I was in tears.”

After their big day, the actress revealed that they were dying to start a family.

Did Fiona Wade meet her husband on Emmerdale? Who did he play?

Simon and Fiona met in Emmerdale after he appeared briefly on the hit soap in August 2017.

He played Home Farm real estate client Hugh Bryant.

Fans may recall that Hugh was unfazed by Rebecca White’s organizational skills when she was left to run the business on her own after a family split.

He ended up canceling his contract with them and was never seen again.

Although Fiona and Simon never appeared together on screen, they certainly hit it off off screen!

The fairy tale wedding of Fiona and Simon

Fiona said OK! that the Emmerdale cast were the life and soul of the party.

“Everyone was on the dance floor by 1:30. The Emmerdale crew never left the dance floor.”

Before the evening’s celebrations, Fiona had walked down the altar with her mother Tessie, who lost her father to esophageal cancer in 2005.

Co-stars including Michelle Hardwick and her wife Kate Brooks watched as they exchanged vows before sharing a tender kiss as they were declared husband and wife.

And Fiona and Simon, who spent six weeks apart before the wedding because Simon was on tour, were looking forward to moving in together. Fiona’s religion, being Bahá’í, does not believe in cohabitation before marriage.

Priya’s Emmerdale Love Life!

Priya’s last relationship was with Ellis Chapman

They slept together in March 2021 but she was on the back foot from his father Al cheating on her with Debbie Dingle.

After finally admitting that they really liked each other, Priya and Ellis’ relationship was cut short when she was badly burned in the corn maze fire.

The scars on her back and the pain she felt meant she pushed everyone away.

Ellis eventually left Emmerdale with the couple, admitting that as they loved each other they wished things could have been different.

Who else has Priya dated?

An ill-fated romance with Cain Dingle was Priya’s first, but their affair ended when she found out he had impregnated Amy Wyatt.

Next, Priya fell head over heels in love with David Metcalfe and the pair began a romance. But David was married to Alicia Metcalfe, although their relationship was fake at the time.

Priya and David got engaged. But when Cameron Murray stopped the Woolpack in an armed siege, Alicia was shot dead. David took her to the hospital and it was clear the couple had genuine feelings for each other.

And so he dumped poor Priya on her wedding day.

Priya then discovered that she was pregnant with his baby. She struggled through her pregnancy due to an eating disorder and had a dramatic birth. But thankfully, baby Amba soon fought back and Priya recovered.

Desperate for a happy ending, Priya decided to enter an arranged marriage with handsome older man Rakesh Kotecha.

Who was Rakesh Kotecha in Emmerdale?

Rakesh soon proved to be completely unreliable. He falsified paternity test results to trick son Kirin into believing he wasn’t the father of Vanessa Woodfield’s baby Johnny. He then helped Kirin flee the country when he overran and killed Tess Harris.

And then, crippled by debt, Rakesh burned Mill Cottage for insurance, leaving Nicola King badly injured and even beginning to embezzle funds from the Sharmas’ business.

And Priya stood with her husband the whole time.

After Rakesh became involved in white man’s shady dealings, Priya decided that enough was enough and took him out of the village.

Priya continues

Much of the focus of Priya’s life lately has been dealing with the scars she has on her back.

She struggled with body confidence and pushed everyone away.

Marlon Dingle was the one who finally helped her.

They shared their struggles and he promised her that if Priya showed her scars at the wedding he would walk down the aisle to marry Rhona.

And Priya keeps her end of the deal when she takes off her jacket and dances carefree.

Is she finally ready to move on?

And does that mean she might be ready to love again too?
