Fish Bank Sherburn in Elmet owner Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon

Jonathan France, who owns Fish Bank at Sherburn in Elmet near Tadcaster, took home a medal after completing the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon over the weekend (14 May).

Jonathan, who, like former rugby player Rob, is originally from Castleford, decided to undertake the arduous 26.2 miles, via an extremely hilly route through North Leeds to Otley – including the infamous Otley Chevin – to raise money for Rob’s charity that raises awareness supporting families with motor neuron disease.

“We all saw Rob highlight what a difficult disease motor neuron disease is and the importance of raising some money for the MND Association,” Jonathan said.

Through sponsorship and the sale of paper bags for charity, Fish Bank has raised over £700 for the charity.

After the marathon, Rob paid tribute to his wife, Lindsey, who ran the marathon held in his honor and raised more than £61,497.

A number of Rob’s former Leeds Rhinos team-mates also attended, including Kevin Sinfield who crossed the finish line with Rob, and the current stars also played their part in the event.

Jonathan’s other medal came after his Chippy was named Top 10 Fish and Chip Takeaway at the National Fish and Chip Awards in February.

Hosted by comedian Jason Manford, the awards were organized by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) and aim to recognize the best in the UK fish and chip industry.

Winners were selected by an anonymous panel of experts to recognize the best takeaways, restaurants and suppliers who set the benchmark for the industry and represent the tremendous impact fish and chips has on the community.

The awards ceremony took place in the Park Plaza on Westminster Bridge.

Fish Bank is no stranger to awards, being named one of the top 50 chippies in the country at last year’s Fry Magazine Awards.
