Five of the best used electric family cars for sale in the UK in 2022

We recommend the early Tesla Model S as a family car with one caveat, as its reliability and quality record is far from exemplary – especially for early cars.
We’re including it here, however, for two compelling reasons: First, almost nothing else for the money has the same range – even the cheapest 60’s versions should get around 190 miles on a charge, while the 85’s model we’d recommend is going to stretch, should go about 270 miles before it runs out of juice.
Second, owning a Model S gives you access to Tesla’s excellent Supercharger network, which makes charging from home a breeze. And cars built before 2017 get free, unlimited charging for life, making them extremely inexpensive to run.
Quality issues aside, the Model S is a good car with lots of space, plenty of grip, and notoriously fast performance. If you’re willing to put up with a few occasional mishaps, the Model S can still make a smart used purchase.
Price to pay: from £30,000
We found: 2014 model SE 85, 27,000 miles, full service history, £32,995
Watch out for: Electronic problems, water leaks, plastic panels coming off or breaking, rattling suspension.
