Former Opelousas Senator Arrested for Driving Under the Influence

OPELOUSAS, La. (KPEL News) — Elbert Guillory, a prominent attorney in Opelousas and a former state senator known to have left the Democratic Party to become a Republican, was arrested over the weekend after a traffic accident on DWI charges.

According to KATC, the Louisiana State Police have confirmed that Guillory was “arrested this weekend following a minor accident.”

Guillory exchanged information with the other driver before leaving the scene, preventing a hit-and-run, the soldiers told KATC.

However, a call still went out, and the soldiers pulled over and arrested Guillory on suspicion of drunk driving. He was issued a subpoena for multiple felonies including first offense DWI, non-surrender and a stop sign and no proof of insurance.

Troopers also said Guillory refused a breathalyzer test, which KATC says could result in a year’s driver’s license suspension.

Guillory has remained silent about the arrest on social media. The latest post from his Facebook page on Sunday relates to the 2020 midterm elections.
