Former Ragin’ Cajun Softball Star Appointed LCA Softball Coach
LAFAYETTE, La. (KPEL News) — Last season, Melissa Mayeux played for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team and was named Player of the Year at the Sun Belt Conference. In the summer of 2022, she even played professionally for the Smash It Sports Vipers in the Women’s Professional Fastpitch (WPF) Leaguea team coached by current UL coach Gerry Glasco.
Today, Mayeux was named Lafayette Christian Academy’s new collegiate softball coach.
“Coach Mayeux says she has always been so passionate about helping others and using softball as a vehicle to help her team become better players, but most importantly, being better individuals in life is a blessing.” , read a statement from LCA published on their sporting Facebook page.
Mayeux has had quite an impressive softball career. Before joining UL, Mayeux was accepted into one of France’s only two baseball academies at the young age of 14. Two years later, she became the first woman eligible to be drafted by a major league baseball team. Mayeux then played collegiate at Miami Dade College before joining the Ragin’ Cajuns.
During her 2022 season for SBC Player of the Year, Mayeux — a utility player — hit .333 and hit 7 homers with 30 RBI. according to ragincajuns.com.
