WWE Legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson likely suffered such a serious injury at WrestleMania 29 as a result of his preparation for the event, according to EC3.
The wrestler-turned-actor’s abdominal and adductor tendons tore out of his pelvis while wrestling John Cena in 2013. His only WWE contest since was at WrestleMania 32 in 2016, where he defeated Erick Rowan in six seconds.
EC3, who wrestled for WWE between 2009-2013 and 2018-2020, appeared on Sportskeeda’s The wrestling outlaws Show. The 39-year-old recalled once suffering an injury similar to The Great One’s:
“Rock gets hurt at this WrestleMania, I made it, and that’s trying to sculpt your body to look a certain way for big shows,” EC3 said. “It makes you vulnerable to injury. How should I know? Because I did too.” [8:40 – 8:55]

EC3 explains how The Rock’s injury happened
The eight-time WWE Champion starred in the 2022 superhero film Black Adam. He often posts training images and videos on social media, including in the weeks leading up to the film’s release.
EC3 went on to explain why it can sometimes be detrimental for wrestlers to look physically good when stepping into the ring:
“Look at The Rock doing peak training for Black Adam and his trainer has his workouts on, ‘You’ve got to look like this for one day,’ and then it’s all about dieting and water retention and sodium, electrolytes. You’re in an athletic competition for 20 minutes, you’re making things pop.” [8:55 – 9:16]
There has been much speculation that The Rock could face off against his real-life cousin Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 on April 1st and 2nd. With less than three months until the two-night event, it remains unclear if the match will take place.
