Funeral arrangements announced for All Folk’d Up singer Barry Mohan

Barry Mohan’s funeral, 28, will take place in his hometown of Aughancloy on Friday.

The Co Tyrone singer was tragically killed in a collision between his car and a truck near Middletown, Co Armagh in the early hours of Monday morning.

Barry’s father Declan, who was also a well-known traditional musician, died on May 2, 2007 after a similar traffic accident.

The 42-year-old’s van collided with a car on Carnteel Road, not far from his home in Aughnacloy.

Around 20 years ago, both of Barry’s parents were involved in another serious road accident, which left them hospitalized after a tree fell on their vehicle. Both survived.

“For Declan to survive that first accident and then later pass away is just so tragic,” said Sinn Féin MP Michelle Gildernew, who is also a close friend of the Mohans family.

“This is deeply personal, we’ve known generations of the Mohans all our lives. You are the best people in the world. They taught music to my children, and Marina [Barry’s mother] and Declan instilled a great love of music in their two boys,” she continued.

Barry was the lead singer and guitarist for the popular folk-rock band All Folk’d Up; his brother Pauric is the lead singer.

The remains of the father of one child were returned to his family home at 8pm on Wednesday evening.

A death notice states that Mr Mohan died “suddenly as a result of an accident”.

It continues: “Beloved son of the late Declan RIP and Marina, dear brother to Pauric and devoted father to Céala Rose. Barry will be greatly missed by his closest friends and family of musicians around the world.

“Barry’s remains rest from 8pm on Wednesday until removal on Friday 21 October at 11am for the 12pm Requiem Mass at St Mary’s Church, Aughnacloy. Afterwards burial in the adjoining cemetery.”

A social media post by All Folk’d Up continued, “The wake is open to all. The family and band would like to thank everyone for the messages of support and wishes.”

Monday’s incident took place on Monaghan Road.

All Folk’d Up’s management company, Rising PR, released a statement on social media.

It said: “We are deeply saddened and shocked to learn of the death this morning of Barry Mohan, guitarist and talented musician in All Folk’d Up, in a traffic accident… Barry was integral to the band’s success and brother to lead singer Pauric.

“His energy and enthusiasm was always evident on stage and will be sorely missed in the local music scene.

“We have worked with Barry over the past few years and it was evident that his talent, his professionalism on and off stage, his love of music and his drive and determination for the band were always there with a smile on his face.

“Barry was due to tour England with All Folk’d Up this weekend but those four shows are now cancelled.

“We extend our deepest sympathy to Pauric, his mother Marina, his daughter Céala Rose and fellow band members Ryan, Paddy and Szymon, and his entire family.”
