Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy is a massive special that’s way too long and a huge misfire for a comedian who usually fires on all cylinders.

Netflix stand-up comedy special Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy was released on October 18, 2022. Here is our official review.

Gabriel Iglesias, also known as “Fluffy”, has been doing stand-up comedy since he was 21. 25 years ago, he performed to a sold-out crowd at Dodgers Stadium for his third stand-up special. Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy to the Netflix. Martin begins the special in the armchair; Anyone who knows the work of Iglesias knows exactly who it is. We then fly a car into space (is that F9) while “Also spoke Zarathustra, Op. 30” plays in the background.

The stage is huge (we’re in a ballpark) and behind Iglesias is a massive cutout of his logo with two cutouts of his dogs. It’s really an incredible atmosphere as the crowd is loud and Iglesias is quite emotional at first. I loved the opening very much and his stage is amazing.

I’ve got a massive bone to pick on the spot with this special that has teased me. I continued listening to Gabriel Iglesias Podcast by Kevin Hart A few weeks ago, and he was telling the story about the pandemic, Netflix had approached him about a special. So they set everything up in Texas, and since all the systems were fine, Iglesias ended up with COVID himself and shut everything down. Mind you, I heard this on Hart’s podcast, so if you watch the special, he tells the EXACT SAME story and immediately took me out of the special. So sure, some of you are hearing it for the first time, but don’t give out the material (which is mostly neither jokes nor funny) if you’re going to do a big special about it.

Another big problem was the running time of the special. I’m not saying you won’t be entertained because Iglesias is an incredible storyteller, but a two hour running time? You’ll have to break this into pieces to finish it because the highs are high but the lows are low. One of the bigger low points for me was when Iglesias spoke about the abort culture and that he doesn’t do politics, religion or sports. However, in his special he is quite political in various parts. So either stick to one side or the other, but don’t announce you won’t talk about the stuff, but then talk about the stuff.

One of my favorite parts of the special was talking about getting free stuff. We’ve all done something on social media where we tagged a certain brand hoping they’d send us something for free. Iglesias wittily says, “Yes, I’m rich, but that’s how you stay rich.” The other part I loved was his story about the offending boxer Canelo Álvarez. Not only was the story funny, but how he broke it down was brilliant.

In total, Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy is a special that you will watch once and forget when it’s done. Iglesias does a great job of mixing stories and jokes, but due to the long running time, the special takes a huge toll on you. Still, I easily recommend checking out this one.
