Gerard Butler actually almost burned his face off!
While promoting his new movie, levelthe 53-year-old stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers and recalled unwittingly covering his face with a substance that was trying to make him scrape his face because it was so stinging.
Read inside to find out what happened to Gerard Butler on the set of Plane…
he explained seth that the incident happened during the preparation of a scene in which his character is working on the plane’s landing gear.
“I put my hand between those two wheels and pretend I know what I’m doing.” Gerard started saying. “Every time I get my hands out, they’re covered in blood and green liquid, right? And I’m like, ‘I don’t know what this green liquid is.’”
The green fluid ended up being a synthetic type of hydraulic fluid actually used for aircraft landing gear. The liquid, which can be colored green, purple, or amber, according to the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, is “derived from alcohol and phosphoric acid.”
The liquid, Gerard adds is “essentially phosphoric acid” and he explained that it penetrated his skin as he got the sweat off his face.
“Suddenly it got stuck in my throat,” he says. “It’s in my mouth. It’s in my nose. It’s in my eyes. It burns my face and I mean it burns.”
As the feeling finally wore off Gerard remembered real pilots yelling at him on set and saying “No!”
