Gogglebox has been faced with Ofcom complaints over coronation comments

Last week’s Channel 4 episode of Gogglebox saw the stars of the series attend the coronation of King Charles III. and pursue Queen Camilla.

Glasgow couple Roisin Kelly and Joe Kyle shared their views at the scene, with Joe chanting: “You can stick your coronation up your ass.”

Some viewers took to Twitter to complain about the incident, with one describing it as “disgusting”.

While another said: “I was watching Gogglebox and almost broke the TV when Roisin and Joe came on!! Take them off!!”

However, not everyone was upset by the comments, with one viewer saying: “Love the Scottish couple’s reaction to the coronation.”

And another adds: “Joe, the only one with common sense.”

Almost 100 people made a formal complaint to Ofcom about the incident, with the regulator receiving 88 complaints.

It wasn’t the only coronation-related incident to spark Ofcom complaints, as ITV’s coverage has become the most lamented TV moment of the year so far.

The broadcaster received more than 4,000 Ofcom complaints following Bridgerton star Adjoa Andoh’s Coronation comments.

The Bridgerton star described the scene as “awfully white” as he aimed at the royal balcony while King Charles III. and other royalty waved to the crowd and watched a flyby.

On Saturday, Adjoa said on ITV: “We’ve gone from the rich diversity of the abbey to a horribly white balcony.”

“That impresses me a lot. I also look at these younger generations and think, ‘What nuances are they going to take on as they grow up?’”

Following the comments, she stressed that she didn’t mean to offend after her comments drew some backlash online.

“I think I upset a few people,” she said, adding, “I was talking about the day and how wonderful it was, and when I was looking at the balcony at the end, I suddenly thought, ‘Oh, that’s it so white!’ because the day was so mixed and I didn’t want to upset anyone.”
