During the 2020 DC FanDome Virtual Event, Warner Bros announced two games: Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. There were some common elements that initially piqued interest in these titles. Both titles have a list of famous DC Comics characters. They are multiplayer co-op titles and were developed by studios that played an important role in the classic Batman: Arkham series. With Suicide Squad still a few months away (and coming to us courtesy of the Rocksteady team), Gotham Knights and the WB Games Montreal team are finally ready to take off.
According to store pages like Steam and the Gotham Knights team Twitter account, they will be released on October 21st. While players would be notified 24 hours in advance of an improved flutter, the game’s Twitter page offers a much tighter ETA. The report states that the Gotham Knights will have a staggered release window and will launch at midnight in each region. Only those playing on the West Coast have a special chance to start playing Gotham Knights on October 20th at 9am PDT. Some gamers get lucky.
The wait for Gotham Knights has been long, tedious, and fraught with delays (and cancellations) for some players. The developer, WB Games Montreal, originally planned to release the game in 2021, but later announced via Twitter that Arkham Knights would have more time and would be pushed back to 2022. WB Games Montreal wanted to build as much internet as possible and play the game everyone with the current consoles (i.e. the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4). Earlier this year, however, the studio canceled the plans so players could play a game with the best possible experience (via IGN).
The Gotham Knights release schedule wasn’t entirely late, however. The release date was confirmed by WB Games Montreal on October 25th. But at Gamescom opening night, the studio presented a Cheasy-themed trailer with a new release date of October 21st. No reason was given; But with so many games being developed today, there are no complaints.
As far as Gotham Knights is going to be in the world, players could try to get started by changing their console location to one of the countries where they have already been drawn to the game. This may work for PlayStation 5 and Xbox X, but since it would save at least a few hours (if impatient gamers set their console clocks to New Zealand time, for example), it may not be worth the effort.
