Grants for community groups in the Northeast – how to apply

Community groups and organizations have until June 14 to apply to North Star Housing for a grant of up to £2,500 to fund a new project or activity that will enrich the areas where the social housing group operates .

North Star Community Leader Peter Locke said: “We are pleased to be able to once again offer our community grants. We are particularly interested in supporting projects that align with North Star’s strategic priorities: zero poverty, good health and well-being, quality education, and sustainable cities and communities.

“We will also prioritize projects benefiting Belle Vue in Hartlepool, Evenwood and Cockfield in Teesdale, Stockton Town Center, Gresham and Newport in Middlesbrough, Carlin How and Skinningrove in East Cleveland and Thornaby.”

“We are always overwhelmed by the creativity and passion that groups put into their applications. We know that these grants can have a huge impact and we look forward to seeing the proposals from the project idea groups.”

The program has previously supported various initiatives including Youth Shack at Skinningrove, a three week program in partnership with the Foxwood Project and Groundwork North East and Cumbria which worked with young people to develop practical skills and build confidence.

Katy Robinson, Community Engagement Officer for Groundwork said: “Thanks to North Star we worked with young people for three weeks to help them develop a range of skills including gardening, painting and building foundations for a barbecue.”

“In addition, they have improved their teamwork, communication, confidence and other soft skills that will help them in their future employment.”
