If I had a physical list of everything I’ve tried to achieve better hair, it would be 10,000 pages long. You name it, I’ve tried it — from the famous “hair detox” on TikTok to reverse hair washing and everything in between. Most of the things I’ve tried have two things in common: I found out about them on TikTok, and they actually work. So whenever I see a viral hair trick or product on the app, I’m always ready to try it. Enter: the Guzjdj 3D Bomb Curl Hair Brush ($10), a hair tool that’s recently gone viral for giving hair the bouncy blowout dreams are made of.
This round brush is no ordinary styling tool. It’s in the shape of a sphere, and to be honest it looks like something out of the Hellraiser movie. The real question was, would a hair tool that looked like it came straight out of a horror movie give my hair a salon-worthy blowout? The short answer: Absolutely.
I have fine, frizzy hair and I usually wash and dry it once or twice a week which means my blowout must be long lasting. When I first tested this brush, things didn’t go so well. I hadn’t watched any videos on how to actually use it (besides what I saw on TikTok), so I tried using it as a regular round brush. It left my hair flat and lifeless, which was definitely not what I was hoping for. I didn’t want to give up the product after using it once, so I watched a few more videos on TikTok. I learned that there is a specific technique for giving your hair big, voluminous curls while using this brush.
Before I started, I blew out my bangs and the top section of my hair and set those areas up in velcro rollers. (This step isn’t necessary, but I chose to do it because I have tons of layers.) From there, I took a small section of hair and sectioned off the rest of my hair at the top of my head. I parted the hair that I left below into two sections.
I then took a 1 inch piece from a section and placed the round brush under the hair at the point closest to my scalp. I turned on the blow dryer and started blow drying while simultaneously rotating the brush inward in a circular motion while simultaneously pulling downward. I knew I was using the brush properly because when I pulled the brush down, the hairs outside the brush spiraled and formed a curl. I repeated these steps twice until my hair was completely dry. I had an almost perfect spiral of hair that looked similar to using a curling iron.
I repeated these steps on all sections of hair until everything was completely dry. When I looked in the mirror I was overjoyed with the result.
My hair had bounce, it had volume and it felt softer than ever. The bottom line was that this $10 hair tool did more for my hair than any other expensive round brush I’ve used in the past. It definitely took a bit of trial and error, but in the end my hair looked amazing, if I do say so myself.
