Devin Haney and Vasyl Lomachenko clash in another mega fight in boxing’s stacked lightweight division tonight. Haney is the favorite as he defends all four belts for the second time. Tonight’s undercard features Andrew Moloney and Junto Nakatani fighting for the vacant WBO Super Flyweight title. Oscar Valdez returns against Adam Lopez, while exciting youngster Raymond Muratalla takes on Jeremiah Nakathila. Follow Haney vs Lomachenko live below!
live updates
Amari Jones stops Pachino Hill on the last lap
Relentless from the tenacious Amari Jones, who secures the dominant post-game victory over the helpless and overwhelmed Pachino Hill in the sixth and final round.
Some massive punches with both hands on top get Hill stuck on the ropes, after which Jones rains down more powerful punches to force the ref to intervene.
A statement victory for the American, who remains unbeaten and moves up to 9-0.
Lomachenko surprises as a heavier man at the weigh-in
There was a surprise at the first weigh-in yesterday when Lomachenko actually tipped the scales as the slightly heavier man.
He weighed right on the 135 pound weight limit, while Haney was slightly lighter at 134.9 pounds.
However, on fight night the champion will be much heavier – the first weigh-in took place a full 36 hours before the fight – and will try to make use of his superior size.
Jones vs. Hill starts in the undercard
The first undercard promotion is already underway at the legendary MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Undefeated super welterweight contender Amari Jones is currently dominating fellow American Pachino Hill in tonight’s opening game and is hoping to go 9-0 as a pro.
Watch: Haney nudges Lomachenko with a powerful jab
For those who missed it yesterday, here’s Haney’s explosive jab at Lomachenko that caused havoc.
I’m not exactly sure if such an aggressive approach would work against Gervonta Davis or Shakur Stevenson, that’s for sure!
Haney after the jab: I’ll impose my will on him
Haney was far more animated than usual during fight week and expressed his desire to retire Lomachenko after a long wait for this fight.
There was no shortage of taunts and verbal remarks from the undisputed winner, who caused a stir at the final duel at yesterday’s celebratory weigh-in by yelling at a smiling Loma that he was “too small” and insisting he would “beat up.” him” before pushing the smaller Ukrainian into the next week.
“That was just the beginning,” Haney said. “See how lightly I pushed him? He is a smaller man and I will impose my will on him.”
However, the challenger took such a brave act as a sign that Haney felt the pressure and even feared before such a big event.
“Now he’s mine,” Lomachenko said. “He doesn’t have the power. He is afraid. I see it 100 percent now.”
Haney vs Lomachenko Prediction
Unsurprisingly, Haney goes into this fight as the clear betting favorite, with his rematch victory over Kambosos Jr., another 12-round masterclass that gave him a big points win. And everything points to another long night here.
The American’s last six wins have all been on points, with Haney often able to control fights with his jab. He will probably try to fight Lomachenko from a distance and make the rounds without taking too many risks.
Haney also has a scale advantage, a factor that has proven problematic for Lomachenko in the past. He was the smaller fighter against Lopez when he lost his WBA and WBO belts, and size remains an issue when he goes up against the best in the 135-pound class.
He will have to take risks if he takes on Haney and from a technical point of view it promises to be a brilliant fight, but Lomachenko is likely to fall short in his bid for the undisputed crown.
Haney wins by unanimous decision.
