Harry Winks: No one from Tottenham has contacted me, not even Antonio Conte
The midfielder is one of a number of Spurs first-team squad members serving abroad this season, including the likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Tanguy Ndombele, Sergio Reguilon and Djed Spence.
While others have liked to struggle at the right end of the table, Winks almost certainly finds themselves at the bottom of Serie A with Sampdoria, with just two wins from 26 games and relegation.
Winks initially struggled with an injury but has been a regular for coach Dejan Stankovic since the beginning of the year and remains focused on helping his current team-mates.
“I’m on loan until the end of the season, I’m happy with this experience but I don’t know what the future holds and I don’t want to think about it,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I can only focus on the next game, but I’m proud to have made this choice. Nobody from Tottenham got in touch with me, not even the manager. I was and am totally focused on Samp.”
Winks’ ankle injury prevented him from appearing for the Blucerchiati in the first five months of his loan and the club can make the move permanent for £21million.
He said: “I’m committed to Sampdoria. If I had been available from the start I would have given everything to help the team, but I don’t want to think that my presence would have been fundamental. It’s great.” team, no matter what’s going on.
“I’m sorry because the club has always supported me, on and off the pitch. It was important to solve my ankle problem. There are great people here and so are the fans. There is a strong sense of love and I can only be grateful to the team. There have been many changes, but we have never lacked for support. We will keep fighting, we can still do it.”
