Baz Luhrmann’s “Elvis” caused a stir from both critics and audiences ahead of its June 24 release. The musical biopic revolves around the incredible singer Elvis Presley (Austin Butler) and explores his early beginnings in music, his relationship with manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks) and his larger than life personality that enchanted millions around the world.
Ideally, to make a film about one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century you have to be precise and respect the person’s family, while still creating something original, which can be a difficult line. The “King of Rock and Roll” died in 1977, but those close to him, particularly his ex-wife Priscilla Presley and their daughter Lisa Marie Presley, live to see his extraordinary career and life on screen be brought to life. But what do you think of the film? Let’s dive into everything Elvis’ family said about “Elvis.”
Priscilla Presley quotes about the “Elvis” movie
Priscilla married Elvis in 1967. They had a daughter, Lisa Marie, in 1968 and eventually separated in 1972. Despite this, Priscilla remained close to her ex-husband until his death in 1977.
Priscilla herself has expressed her support for “Elvis” on numerous occasions, even walking the red carpet at the Met Gala in May 2022 alongside Butler, who plays the singer in the film. On April 29, the Dallas actress discussed the film on Facebook, writing, “It’s a brilliantly and creatively told true story that only Baz could have delivered in his unique artistry. Austin Butler, who played Elvis, is outstanding. Halfway through the movie Jerry and I looked at each other and said WOW!!! Well done to him… he knew he had big shoes to fill.”

Additionally, Presley praised the film on Instagram in May 2022, saying in part, “I’ve seen Elvis the film, I’ve seen the trailer over a dozen times… I relived every moment of this film.” It took me a few days to get over the emotions as was the case with Lisa. Beautifully done Baz, Tom, Austin and Olivia.”
Lisa Marie Presley quotes about the “Elvis” movie
Elvis’ only child, Lisa Marie, is similarly pleased with her father’s portrayal in Elvis and the film as a whole. The singer shared her positive thoughts about the film on Instagram in May 2022. “I want to take a moment to let you know that I’ve seen Baz Luhrmann’s film ‘Elvis’ twice now and let me tell you that it’s no short of spectacular. Absolutely exquisite. Austin Butler beautifully channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul,” she wrote.
Commenting on Luhrmann’s direction, Presley said, “You can feel and witness Baz’s pure love, care and respect for my father throughout this beautiful film, and it’s finally something that I and my children and their children can be forever proud of.” . . . I can’t tell you enough how much I love this film and I hope you love it too.”
Riley Keough’s quotes about the “Elvis” movie
Through daughter Lisa Marie, Elvis has four grandchildren, and of them, Riley Keough has been particularly vocal about her love and admiration for the film. In an interview with Variety, the 33-year-old actress revealed the overwhelming emotions she went through following her grandfather’s life on screen. “In the first five minutes I could feel how much work Baz and Austin put in to get it right. It made me emotional right away,” she said. “I started crying after five minutes and wouldn’t stop. There was a lot of family trauma and generational trauma that started for our family back then. I was honored that they worked so hard to really get his essence, to feel his essence.” Austin captures that so beautifully.”
If Presley’s immediate family and loved ones have nothing but good things to say about “Elvis,” you’ll know it’s a work of art. See the film in theaters June 24 to see what the Presley family is so excited about.
