“I have a lot of faith in the guys”

Bayern Munich winger Sadio Mane has offered his best wishes to Liverpool following their 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester City on Sunday October 16.

The Senegalese international left the Reds this summer to join Bundesliga side Bayern Munich but it seems he still has a soft spot for his old team.

“I’m really happy for the lads that they beat City. I couldn’t see it because we were on the bus. I have a lot of faith in the lads and the coach that they will get back on top.”

Mane was on the Bayern bus because he had a league game to play himself. Bayern beat Freiburg 5-0 two hours later, where Mane also joined the goalscoring charts.

His record is now up to five goals in ten Bundesliga games for his new club. Mane has cited Manchester City as his second favorite club to play against throughout his career.

Sadio Mane in an interview with BILD after Liverpool’s win: “I’m very happy for the boys that they beat City. I couldn’t see it because we were on the bus. I have great confidence in the lads and the coach that they will get back on top.”

He has 10 goals and two assists in 19 games against City in all competitions. The former Southampton forward has 13 goals and three assists against Crystal Palace – his best tally against a team.

Manager Jurgen Klopp gave his team a slow start to the season, leading many pundits and fans to wonder if it was due to Mane’s absence. The Merseyside side signed SL Benfica’s Darwin Nunez for a staggering £85million this summer. But that didn’t stop people from wondering what might have happened if Mane hadn’t gone.

Liverpool move up to eighth in the table with this hugely important win and have picked up 13 points from nine Premier League games.

Is Liverpool’s poor start due to Sadio Mane joining Bayern Munich?

Sadio Mane is one of the most elite attackers in the world who always seems to show up for big occasions. His departure would hurt any team and Liverpool are no different.

However, it’s not fair to say that Mane’s departure to Bayern Munich is the only reason behind the 2019-20 Premier League champions’ poor start to the season. Luis Diaz is arguably the club’s best player since he started at left flank in January, where Mane earned his spurs.

Roberto Firmino and Nunez have also lived up to expectations in attack down the middle – a position Mane has occupied in his last six months at the club.

A bigger reason for Liverpool’s misery since the start of the season is the team’s aging and sometimes unenthusiastic midfield. It’s no surprise that the Reds won in style in a game where midfield played well – against City.
