Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers fell 3-3 after a shocking loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week. The offense battled one of the league’s worst secondaries, missing several players.
Mike Evans was asked in the dressing room after the game. The reporter mentioned that this is essentially the same team that won the four-game NFC South last year.
Evans admitted the Buccaneers are missing a key element from last year’s team:
“But no gronk. No Gronk. i miss gronk Just hanging out with him, that was my type… He was one of the hardest workers I’ve ever been with. There’s a reason he was so great.”
The offensive didn’t work so well this year without Rob Gronkowski. There are many factors behind this. For example, Brady is older and dealing with a ton of issues off the field, including a pending divorce.
They were also injured for most of the season, particularly on offense. There are many reasons why the Buccaneers slipped to .500, but the absence of Gronkowski must be considered one of them.
Will Rob Gronkowski return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this year?
Back in the offseason and even early in the regular season, many in the NFL thought there would be a chance the former tight end might consider a return to football.
The prevailing theory was that halfway through the season he would return to a real contender and try to win another ring.
The idea was that the Buccaneers would be that contender and that he would make them title favorites.
At this point, however, Tampa Bay can’t exactly be considered a legitimate contender. They’re still first in their division, but they’re only 3-3.
FiveThirtyEight only gives them a 6% chance of winning the Super Bowl, which likely won’t tempt Gronkowski to come out of retirement.
There are five teams with better odds, and if they keep fighting, more teams might have better odds.
Going back to red and white has always been a long road for Gronkowski. It is all the more surprising that his former team is lagging at 3: 3 and could actually use his services.
