“I was close to coming, very close” – Tottenham star Ivan Perisic reveals 2 Premier League clubs he almost joined in the past

Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ivan Perisic has revealed he was “very close” to joining Premier League side Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.

Perisic, 33, joined Spurs on a free transfer this summer after his contract with Inter Milan expired.

The Croatian full-back has played for various clubs such as Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, among others.

He will now ply his trade in the Premier League with Tottenham. However, he almost made the move to Manchester United in 2017 and Arsenal in 2019.

On Stadium Astro’s YouTube channel, Perisic said:

“I’m so excited to be in the Premier League. I wanted to get into the Premier League so many years ago but something always happened. I can’t wait to get started. I was about to cum, very close [to coming before].”

He added:

“2017 with Manchester United and then 2019 with Arsenal. Many other clubs too, but something always happened at the last moment. But okay, we’re not looking into the past. I just want to focus and do my best with Tottenham.”

Perisic made 48 appearances for Inter in all competitions last season, scoring ten goals and providing nine assists. Under current Tottenham manager Antonio Conte, he won the Serie A title with the club in 2020-21.

He will try to help the north London side win a trophy next season.

Tottenham Hotspur’s injury update ahead of their 2022-23 Premier League first clash

Spurs meet Southampton at home in their first Premier League game of 2022-23 on August 6. The Lilywhites lost that game 2-3 last season while drawing 1-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium.

Antonio Conte hopes to take revenge for the defeat and start the new season on the right note.

He announced in a pre-game press conference that midfielder Oliver Skipp is the only player who will miss the clash through injury. Newcomer Yves Bissouma is also in doubt, but a decision should only be made after the final training session.

He said (via Football.London):

“At this moment we only have one player who I’m sure will be missing against Southampton, namely Oliver Skipp. Bissouma we have another day to check his physical condition very well.”

Conte on injuries: “At the moment we only have one player who will definitely miss Southampton and that is Skipp. Bissouma, another day [before the game] Still nothing serious but I don’t want to take any chances with anyone for the next few games.” football.london/tottenham-hots…

He added:

“Nothing serious, but I don’t want to take any risks for the next few games, but tomorrow we have another training session to do an assessment of the team. The other players are all available.”

New signing Richarlison will also miss Tottenham’s clash with Southampton through suspension. He was suspended for one game after throwing a flare into the crowd in Everton’s 1-0 win over Chelsea in May last season.
