There’s a new Elden Ring mod that’s so good, I wish it could make it to the console version somehow.
The PC version of Elden Ring has some fantastic mods thanks to its large and dedicated community. One of the latest mods to hit the game is Increased Draw Distance. (opens in new tab)pretty much does what it says on the tin (thanks, Wccftech (opens in new tab)). With it installed, you can see more of the game’s distant landscapes as you travel through The Lands Between.
The best thing about the mod is that it does this with very little impact on the game’s performance. If you’ve got a PC capable of running Elden Ring without any problems, it’s definitely worth downloading the mod to give yourself a better look at the game’s distant sights.
The horizons in between
So why is increased view range for Elden Ring such a big deal? For starters, developer From Software really wants you to immerse yourself in its environments in all of its games. Be it the far-off Awakening Bell in Dark Souls or the far-off Castle Lothric in Dark Souls 3. You are constantly alerted to your destination and the frightening journey between you and it.
It’s no different with Elden Ring. Right off the jump you can get a good look at Stormveil Castle, home of the game’s first major boss, and the monolithic Earth Tree at the heart of the land. These towering landmarks serve as a reminder of how big the world is around you, or how small you are when you are in it.
Increasing the view range of Elden Ring further serves this theme. And while it’s highly unlikely, I’d love to see From Software implement it in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game.
Having an even better sense of my place in The Lands Between relative to other key areas on the map is something I’d love to experience on repeat playthroughs. If only to bask in the sombre beauty of the dying world of Elden Ring. And while the game doesn’t have an official photo mode, a greater display distance would certainly please avid screenshotters like me and I’m sure countless others.
