A cruise ship employee has revealed some of the secret perks he gets onboard that other passengers don’t have access to.
Musician Bryan James performs aboard the Wonder of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean ship, and regularly shares images from below decks that guests cannot access.
Lastly, he explained some of the perks staff receive onboard the ships, including heavily discounted trips for friends and family.
For just £35 a day he can get people on board the ship and they have access to everything on board.
In a video, Bryan (@bryanjames.music) said, “A little-known fact — crew members can sign anyone they want on the cruise ship for virtually no cost.
“I just signed my parents and my boyfriend Jeremiah last week.
“All you have to do is pay $40 (£35) a day and you can stay on the ship for as long as you want and do whatever you want.
“It’s a bit like airline buddy passes, except it’s unlimited.
“That’s one of the best perks of working for a cruise line because you can take your friends with you pretty much anywhere in the world.
“Once you’re on the ship, everything is completely free, including your meal and your shows.”
Guests are also provided with a room to stay the night, the standard of which may vary depending on availability on the ship.
Another perk on board the ship that passengers do not have access to is the crew shop.
The onboard supermarket allows Bryan and his colleagues to buy “just about anything” they need while at sea.
He said the business became essential during an eight-month period during the pandemic, when ship workers were not allowed to leave to visit ports.
He said: “There was a time when the crew was not allowed to leave the ship for eight months.
“Every time the store filled up, it was like Christmas morning, there was such a long line.”
Many people were excited to hear how cheaply they could board a cruise ship if they just had a friend working on board.
One said, “How do I apply to be your friend?”
A second wrote: “Okay you talked me into it. I will be your friend.”
Meanwhile, this £1billion Disney cruise ship could be saved from the scrap heap after never launching.
This couple claims to save money by living on a cruise ship for half the year.
