Thanh Le has been involved in the sport of mixed martial arts for quite some time. For all his years of professional fighting, the ONE Featherweight Champion can say with confidence that he’s never seen anyone quite like Tang Kai.
While merely observing Tang, Le will have a chance to put the Chinese star to the test for good when they clash in the August 26th co-main event of ONE 160: Ok vs. Lee II, live from Singapore Indoor Stadium is transmitted.
In conversation with combat press, Le admitted that taking on fighters like Tang inside the circle is almost a calling for him. He pointed out that the No. 1 contender was unlike anyone else in the sport. Le said that Tang has a style of his own and he uses a continuous punch attack:
“I think he’s really good. I mean there’s a reason I’m going to fight all these guys. They will be very good fighters – very skilled in MMA in general or in specific skills.”
“I would say he’s a rarity in MMA because he moves his feet really well. He plays defensive games where he doesn’t throw a lot of shots. He does his best not to get hit and hit which is a version of my game. I think he plays a little less safe game than me – you know, younger guy. I think he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. I think this is a really good show for the fans. It will stand out with its style compared to my style.”
Tang is one of the most feared forwards in the ONE Championship, and the 26-year-old has a streak of three straight first-round KO wins. His most recent win was a complete dominance of former No. 1 contender Kim Jae Woong at ONE X last March.
The Sunkin International Fight Club fighter has 14 wins in his pro career and currently sits 6-0 in the ONE Championship.
However, Le could be even more dangerous than Tang. The ONE World Featherweight Champion is 5-0 at ONE Championship with all five of his wins by KO.
Thanh Le already knew from ONE X that he would fight Tang
Thanh Le wasn’t too surprised when he learned he would be defending his world title against Tang.
Immediately following Tang’s win over Kim, Le already knew he would be in a barn burner with the Chinese star. It’s also a fight the 36-year-old world champion has been eagerly anticipating.
Aside from their similar fighting styles, Thanh Le also admired Tang clapping a bit after the shot for the world title.
“Coming out of ONE X, we kind of knew he was probably going to be the next guy. He’s been talking a bit of rubbish so that’s always in his favor as far as preparing for the next fight. So we’ve been eyeing it for a while and preparing as best we can.”
