Ilkay Gundogan has already explained to Arsenal why he would join – and why he might not

standard sport understands that the Gunners have made Gündogan a key summer destination. The five-time Premier League winner’s contract with Manchester City expires this summer and is therefore currently available on a free transfer.
City are keen to keep Gundogan and continue talks over an extension, while Barcelona are also keeping an eye on the situation while they plan their own bid. Nothing has been decided at the moment.
“There are talks, there are talks in the background,” Gündogan said in April about a possible stay at City. “It’s normal when there are a few months left.
“Nothing has been decided yet, not on my part, not on the side of the club – talks are ongoing. If there is ever going to be a decision, it will be you.” [in the media] will be the first to know.
However, Gündogan is reluctant to renew his City contract over fears he will not be able to cope with the strains of playing for City week in and week out as they attack on four fronts: Premier League football, the Champions League and both domestic cups.
After Guardiola said in April he wanted to keep Gundogan “forever”, the midfielder said “my physical condition … plays a role” in his decision to extend.
“I guess [Guardiola’s comments] a lot. We have won a lot together and hearing about things like that of course gives me joy and a smile.”
