Illegal Alien Accused of Driving Drunk and Smashing Into Off-Duty Deputy’s Motorcycle

A Colorado sheriff’s deputy is dead after a fatal hit-and-run collision involving an illegal alien who allegedly fled the scene.

Weld County Deputy Sheriff Alexis Hein-Nutz was only 24 years old. Hein-Nutz, a resident of Bismarck, North Dakota, was driving to work Sunday when a pickup truck hit her motorcycle, according to The Denver Post.

Authorities arrested Norberto Garcia-Gonzales Monday night following Sunday’s fatal clash.

According to CBS Colorado, he faces preliminary charges of leaving the scene of an accident that involved death and driving with motoring which resulted in death.

According to KFYR-TV, investigators recovered a fake green card and fake Social Security card from the car Gonzalez-Garcia was driving. The suspect was initially misidentified as Octavio Gonzalez-Garcia, according to The Denver Gazette.

A Weld County police officer said Wednesday that investigators believe Garcia-Gonzales is an illegal immigrant, according to Fox News.

Capt. Matt Turner of the Weld County North Jail Complex accuses Garcia-Gonzales of trying to escape justice after the crash.

“All of this combined initially made it almost impossible for our people to investigate the crime. They had no idea who was behind the wheel of that car because he fled into a corn field and disappeared,” Turner told Fox & Friends’ Todd Piro.

Garcia-Gonzales already had an outstanding warrant for his non-appearance and was already arrested for DUI, according to Fox News.

President Joe Biden spoke out against deporting illegal aliens with drunk-driving convictions as candidates in 2020, according to National Review.

Deportations themselves were gutted under Biden’s administration. Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported 55,590 illegals out of the country in fiscal year 2021 — less than a third of the 185,884 they deported in 2020, when Donald Trump was president.

According to Fox News, Turner is frustrated that the suspect was released from custody to further offend the community.

“It’s frustrating from a law enforcement perspective, but I really wonder how the community feels about this. How frustrated are you?”

As recently as 2018, illegal immigrants made up 13 percent of the total federal prison population, according to The Washington Times.

Turner told Piro that police arrested Garcia-Gonzales with Hein-Nutz handcuffed.

“I’m holding her handcuffs right now and I think that speaks to the fact that she was part of a team,” the prison official said, according to Fox News.
